This is an elective course of general education. It is available to undergraduate students from regular programmes or international programmes at Chiang Mai University. Thai language is the usual teaching medium in regular classrooms, whereas English is used in international classrooms. Disaya is mainly involved in international classrooms, where the number of students ranges from ten to 150. International students are from programmes such as Software Engineering (SE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Information Systems and Network Engineering (ISNE), Nursing, Economics, Thai as a Foreign Language (TFL), and Social Sciences. Additionally, Disaya used to teach classrooms of Thai students from the Faculty of Medicine. This course runs in both the first and second semesters, each of which lasts 15 weeks. Each teaching session lasts for 1.5 hours and is held twice a week. The aims of this course are to enable students to: gain an understanding of the history of animation, types of animation and techniques; create pictorial artwork, i.e. character design and effectively communicate their idea; and apply knowledge and use new media and technology in animation-making and presentation.

Marketing for Design | 951451

This is a major elective for undergraduate students in the programme of Animation and Visual Effects and the programme of Digital Games in the College of Arts, Media and Technology – Chiang Mai University. This course runs in the first semester, which lasts 15 weeks. Each session comprises an hour of lecture and four hours of learning by doing (lab.). The aim of this course is to enable students to gain knowledge about marketing in relation to design. This includes the meaning and importance of marketing and design, marketing mixes, product promotion and advertising, buyer behaviors, price-setting, distribution channels, and market trends. Based on students’ interest and knowledge, students must come up with a design proposal. This is followed by design practice, a survey, design outputs and presentation. Additionally, the course instructor invites specialists from private companies to share their knowledge and experience relating to marketing and design.

Digital Movie for Commerce | 951356

This is a major elective for undergraduate students in the programme: Animation and Visual Effects in the College of Arts, Media and Technology – Chiang Mai University. This course runs in the second semester, which lasts 15 weeks. Each teaching session lasts for 1.5 hours and is held twice a week. At the beginning, teaching and learning involve lectures and in-class activities, which enable students to explain marketing, advertising, consumer behavior, decision-making processes and marketing environment analysis. Next, this course invites specialists from animation studios to share their knowledge and experience in design for marketing communications, especially a creative process for advertising, the production process and budget estimation for a commercial movie. Eventually, students have to work on a group project in which each group has to produce a short movie for a commercial purpose, followed by group presentation.

Fundamental Design in Digital Arts | 955105

This is a core course in the undergraduate programmes of the College of Arts, Media and Technology – Chiang Mai University. These programmes include Animation and Visual Effects, Digital Games, Modern Management and Information Technology, and Digital Industry Integration. This course runs in the second semester, which lasts 15 weeks. Each weekly teaching session lasts for two hours. By the end of this course, students should be able to explain the principles and theories of design and their applications to digital arts, use digital tools to design digital artworks, and effectively communicate their ideas.
